(University News, Correspondent: Qian Chen) On the morning of September 10, at the invitation of the School of Resource and Safety Engineering, the International Exchange and Cooperation Center, and the Graduate School, Professor Michael Badawi from Université de Lorraine, France, and Professor Mildred Quintana from the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí, Mexico, engaged in an academic exchange with faculty members and students at the Wuhan Institute of Technology. The event was held in Lecture Hall 419 of the Lingchuang Building on the Wuchang Campus, where the two scholars delivered invited academic lectures.

The session was chaired by Professor Hongqiang Li from the School of Resource and Safety Engineering. Professor Badawi presented a lecture entitled “Flotation Process Studies Based on the Integration of Machine Learning and Molecular Dynamics,” in which he systematically introduced recent advances in applying artificial intelligence and molecular simulation to the mechanistic study of mineral flotation. He emphasized the critical role of interdisciplinary integration in enhancing resource utilization efficiency. Professor Quintana delivered a lecture entitled “Strategies for Integrating Two-Dimensional Materials into Environmental Applications,” drawing on her own research to comprehensively elucidate the application potential of two-dimensional materials in environmental remediation and green energy, and demonstrating how emerging materials can offer novel pathways for addressing environmental challenges. The two presentations were rich in content and broad in perspective, providing an intellectually stimulating academic experience for the audience.

Faculty members and graduate students from the School of Resource and Safety Engineering actively participated in the discussion, creating a lively and engaging atmosphere. Attendees noted that the exchange not only deepened their understanding of cutting-edge research in the relevant fields but also inspired new ideas for future scientific inquiry.

It is worth noting that the event coincided with the 40th Teachers’ Day. To express appreciation for the visit and guidance of the two internationally renowned scholars, Professor Faquan Yu, Vice President of the university, together with Professor Dongsheng He, Dean of the School of Resource and Safety Engineering, presented flowers to the guests prior to the event. This gesture reflected the university’s strong commitment to academic exchange and its enduring respect for the tradition of honoring educators, contributing to a solemn yet warm atmosphere.

The successful organization of this academic exchange further strengthened cooperative ties between the university and higher education institutions in France and Mexico, injecting new academic vitality into the development of disciplines such as resource chemical engineering and environmental engineering. Looking ahead, the university will continue to expand international exchange and collaboration, promote high-level academic interactions and research partnerships, and continuously enhance the quality of talent cultivation and scientific innovation capacity.
